Social Housing in Durazno

In 2023, the project was awarded second prize in the international competition "Wood: Innovation for Social Interest Architecture", organized by the MVOT and ANV in Uruguay, with the support of the IDB and the Municipality of Durazno. This initiative aims to promote the use of innovative wood construction systems, enhancing energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and reducing both environmental impact and construction costs.
Located in a unique urban setting, the building integrates with its context through a compact and efficient design. It consists of two separate volumes, encouraging natural ventilation and lighting. The housing units feature flexible typologies and expand outward through balconies.

The CLT structure defines both the materiality and efficiency of the project, fostering sustainability. The central circulation acts as a connector and breathing space, while principles of bioconstruction and healthy design ensure a high-quality environment with minimal environmental impact.
In this collaboration, we worked alongside construction company SACEEM and the design teams Agustín Dieste, Estudio MARQ, and Estudio ALVMTR, who developed the architectural concept and contributed to the overall project development.
At MAG, we were responsible for BIM modeling and documentation, ensuring compliance with required standards and maintaining consistency and accuracy throughout every stage of the project.
